Mahogany is a very highly prized hardwood, and has been used to make many different kinds of furniture.
Mahogany comes in different shades of darkish red, and the wood will tend to become darker as it weathers in. One of mahogany’s best qualities is its density – although it is not among the hardest of hardwoods, it is generally free of air pockets and other deformities. This means that a smooth surface is easy to achieve with minimal finishing. It also absorbs stains and preservatives extremely well, which allows you to put a nice glossy surface. This quality makes mahogany lumber perfect for outdoor furnishings like deck chairs and tables.
Mahogany furniture such as dressers, sideboards, and tables have been a fixture in fine homes for many years. Mahogany wood has also the quality and rigidity necessary for heavy furniture pieces like bureaus and wardrobes.
One of the great features of this wood is that the mahogany trees are very tall and large which makes it possible to cut long wooden planks to make a broad piece of furniture, especially dinning and bedroom furniture.
Good quality furniture needs regular maintenance. Use a good quality table wax or furniture polish once in a month to keep the furniture look shiny and new. It will also protect the wood from getting damaged due to changes in weather conditions and termites. Fill the spray can with furniture polish and spray it on all sides of the furniture and use a clean dust cloth to apply it evenly. You can apply the table wax in the same way and wipe it off with a clean cloth.
In a classroom situation in Kenya whiteboards are slowly replacing blackboards. Here in Kenya we are a little behind as far as innovations are concerned. But the change is taking place gradually, specially in private schools.
Blackboards are flat writing or drawing surfaces. Several decades ago, they were made out of slate. Since the slate usually was black in color, this gave blackboards their name.
Whiteboards are also flat writing or drawing surfaces but with a white surface on which markers can be used.
Teachers seem to prefer whiteboards because the use of chalk results in chalk dust that can aggravate allergies. Chalk dust also has to be washed from your hands after the board is used. In contrast, whiteboards use markers and therefore do not put any type of dust into the air. They do not leave any coating that has to be washed from your hands, and so are considered cleaner. [Chalk dust is also not good for a room that has Computers.] [You can also project Powerpoint slides on to whiteboards.] [From a students perspective, whiteboards are also easier to read.]
Our observations of teachers using our combo blackboard/whiteboard indicate that the teachers seem to use the whiteboard side more than the blackboard side.
Both whiteboards and chalkboards can be reused as many times. Blackboards are cleaned with erasers that typically are made from felt. Whiteboards are cleaned with special dry-erase erasers, and if marker residue builds up, they are wiped down with a general surface cleanser. Users of whiteboards, however, have to be more careful of the writing instrument they select. Only dry erase markers can be used on whiteboards, since permanent markers or other markers will not come off the whiteboard surface easily.
[Most schools in the UK are using whiteboards now - the children often have small (A4 size) ones for writing answers on and holding them up for the teacher to see - like the old slates I suppose.]
It is important that the furniture you choose is solidly built. Spending a little more may be worth in the long run if the furniture is made with better materials, as it will prove more durable in the long run.
Questions to ask yourself are: Will it last? Will it be hard to take care of? How much should I spend?
The furniture piece should feel solid and heavy. Avoid particleboard and light aluminum frames and stick with solid wood construction. Solid wood frames will generally last much longer and look more refined.
Our Furniture is always built from better quality raw materials.
Workmanship refers to the quality of the work of an artisan or craftsman.
We started making furniture in 1994, so we have very experienced craftsmen.
Over the years we have filtered out the bad workers and have only retained workers who take pride in their workmanship.
Such workers, even when ordered to work faster in order to meet some deadline, will take their time and make sure their work is not shoddy.
This attitude has resulted in increased demand of our products.
There has, in particular, been a great increase in demand of our Kindergarten Furniture and our Club, Restaurant and Hotel Furniture .
Does your furniture manufacturer give you any guarantees?
It is better to buy directly from a furniture manufacturer who gives guarantees than a reseller as you can have direct guaranty benefits.
At Furniture Kenya we many times do free repairs to furniture bought from us even if the expiry date is long gone. We only ask for the customers to bring the furniture to us and take it back when finished.

Homework is one of the biggest challenges a parent faces daily. After all, having sat all those long hours in school, the last thing your child wants to do is sit down some more and focus on school work.
Unfortunately, homework is necessary, enabling your child to retain what was taught in class that day.
That being said, homework shouldn’t be something both you and your child dislike; it shouldn’t be a daily struggle, at least not every day.
Creating a Conducive Environment for Homework will help in a long way to encourage your child to like doing Homework. A child’s bedroom setting geared towards homework instead of play will make a big difference.
Can we really buy furniture online without looking at the real products? How do you know the quality of that particular piece of furniture just by looking at its photo?
Unless the reputation of that particular store has been established, its better to check out the product personally on the ground.
Of course, good images will help a lot as shown on this Online Furniture Shop/Store in Nairobi Kenya.
By online stores I mean those that display their catalog online but require one to use the phone or email for further inquiries and use Mpesa like services for payments.
For common items like Office Chairs and Office Tables available in Nairobi it might not be necessary to visit the store locally. One could, perhaps, just trust the photos online.
